Should Men receive Paternity leave?

If  a couple has a baby and both work full time jobs, generally because of child bearing reasons the woman will receive maternity leave for about 3-6 months.   Mind you that maternity leave includes full salary and benefits. A if the ladies maternity leave is over the couple has to decide to either get a nanny or send the child to daycare which are both costly options. The rational parents for the remaining 4 months of the baby's development should allow for the father to stay with his child for those four months. Called paternity leave.

Paternity leave involves the man taking off work for about 2-4 months with pay, or part time work for 2-3 months at the same salary. It would only seem fair, however many firms will not grant a man paternity leave as it is not a component of the contractual agreement which if I might add can be modified if both parties sign off to the agreement.
The trickle down issue goes back to gender biases and the workplace, women have advocated for their sick leave allowances, maternity benefits and equal pay. However men have not advicated for anything much more than what they are given. In a gender equal society a man should be able to take off leae to care his child.
There have been many studies that show that early bonding with a child's father leads to a more productive relationship for future years. In many countries however many fathers are not at home with their children period. Which is spin off a larger societal and socialization problem.

In an efficient labor environment if women want to be awarded the same rights and freedoms as men, men should be awarded the same benefits that women get.
