Marketing Addictions

The people in  the world are some of the most interesting subjects to try to understand. I'm sure we've heard the generalist statement there are two kinds of people in this the world, people who are and people who aren't. Economics teaches us about allocation of scarce resources, but what happens when the quantity of resources doesn't affect the market and as some persons are entering and leaving the market daily, some remain as permanent members in this market. I would like to think of this market as the market for addictions.

An addiction can be defined as

"A chronic brain disorder and not simply a behavior problem involving alcohol, drugs, gambling or sex"(new definition)

"Addiction is a persistent, compulsive dependence on a behavior or substance" (old definition )

This implies that anything can be an addiction, but the most popular ones and the most unorthodox ones are the ones of interest in this market analysis. What are the most popular addictions?

1.Alcohol
2. Smoking
3.Drugs
4. Gambling
5.Food
6.Video Games
7. Internet addiction
8.Sex Addiction
9.Shopping
10. Work addiction

So if people will always buy alcohol, cigarettes, narcotics, junk food, the latest video games, and clothes, some people will always be looking for sex and work.

So capitalists in Society will always find avenues to exploit these areas of addictions. So there always be a sale of free drinks as an incentive. Drugs are available anywhere you are(even prison), certain things will always be advertised and they will always be making newer and more exciting porn for you watch.

The firms that enter into business in these areas almost always make profits. Which poses a problem for the resolution of addictions when they appear. Because the sources and triggers are going be there in your face almost everyday.

The nature of business is to make a profit and for some, at the expense of other lives and livelyhood
