Don't Get an Economist mad

Many times it is unbearable to sit down and watch the daily news, something bad must happen. As an Economist in training I sometimes wonder what it is actually like being an adviser to a politician.

I'm sure that not being listened to must be frustrating, but taking a look at how our world markets and the way economies are heading, who is going be responsible for either the  inevitable failure or comeback?

The economist is seen as the boring guy in the background who talks a lot about things the average Joe doesn't know. But have you ever thought of a pissed off Economist? One who is there is talking and making sense and nobody listens.

So one day he loses it what does the economist then do?
I think he should do what employees are trained not to do, which is to threaten the boss that he'll  reveal the "company secrets", forcing people to begin listening to his ideas and his proposed plans. The plans that just might save us all.

A little too dramatic you might think, but many times to solve a problem where everybody is milling around being indecisive, somebody or a group of people need to come together and change the status quot, challenge the norms which have been engendering our failing societies. Here are somethings that I suspect are going to disappoint:

1. People are always talking about we want more jobs, Jobs! Jobs! Jobs!- Bad news here are three Jabs! There are not enough potential jobs to satisfy the total working population, this means that even skilled laborers are at liberty of not getting a job. Secondly, many students go to university and train in different skills and expect to get a job after, the nature of the market today is telling us that people are not retiring as they are supposed to so again we have a structural employment scarcity problem. Thirdly many persons who receive employment will inevitably be underpaid. there is the truth and it may hurt some but its the truth.

2. Many economists will predict that our economy will turn around in the next few years, however with current policy trends I actually predict it to get worse. Super high inflation rates, interest rates and unemployment.

So is it time to start giving a damn about the world around and face the facts that some of us may not get a good job unless we spend the time developing our professional networks and  our education. Yeah I said it more school!
