Internet Security

If you are older and like myself , this may not be for you but its still important to think about.

A little History lesson:
In 1491  Christopher Columbus set out for a voyage to discover the new world because he ha the guts to challenge what everyone was saying. Everyone around at that time thought that the world was flat and only ran from western Europe to east Asia. He thought that the world that was round which proved to be true. On his voyage he came to the west indies and the North america and found different groups over primitive people. He late went on to report that he discovered the new world and ushered in the beginning on the colonization era. Born from out of the west came technologies that have impacted the entire world, more specifically the internet, which was originally set up as a network to remotely receive counter intelligence for the US army. Over the past couple of years the entire has evolved into a nexus for the development of social networking, metaphorically making the world flat again.

But where things were made for good purposes they eventually get corrupted. All over the internet there are many hackers who are exceptionally good at what they do. These hackers come in many forms, ages and come from both sexes. In addiction to hackers there are predators, people who want to take advantage of the weaker and more naive of the group.

I'm sure you could remember some episodes of tv shows where you have this derranged white guy, posing as a cute 13 year old girl who looking to make new friends  or those girls that put up pictures of some random person you don't know to trick yu into liking them. This has shifted the sphere of social networking, people are not always honest about who they are and what their intenetions are.

Take for example a case just recently in Jamaica where a 14 year old from Manchester is reported missing after allegedly meeting up with a guy she met on Facebook from Portland or almost 200 km away. She however has been found and the man has been arrested but how many other times could this have happened or can happen and the girl or boy could not be found or their body recovered somewhere.

The answers are somewhat simple and obvious that's why they are easy to follow.

1. If you are female, young and attractive... you are a target.

The signs of the predators have actually become easier to read.  If a guy from god knows where adds you and then is immediately interested in your daily activities and patterns and has highly sexually suggested comments they may not be predators but have the potential to be.

Females especially should be careful of what they post on Facebook, Tweet or share on picture sites. If you give notion that you are accessible you may just be the next target.

2. Wait until you reach the age

Facebook has a minimum age requirement of 13, which is only to protect the user. I doubt a 11 year old  knows the dangers of interacting with unknown people or posers. Or even know the distinction between real people and posers.

Adult sites have a minimum age requirement  of either 18 or 21 and this is to protect you , however these sites are not vigilant enough as it very easy to click yes even if no is the correct answer. Lets face it kids today are not stupid.
