Love Me, Hate Me...Be My Valentine
I'm not going to hate on Valentine's Day like some other single people, or tell the world that an economist doesn't like ti idea of spontaneous gift giving but what I will do is tell a story of the wise and foolish Valentine using Economics of course.
The modern day valentines day sees couple appreciating the love that they have for each other by showing it with gifts; Flowers, Chocolates, Jewelry, Dinner , Cards and don't forget the little white bear with the heart, but even though couples go through these motions many people still argue that couples should proclaim their love for each other everyday. Generally these persons are the ones who don't see the need to buy anything or show anything extra on that day.
Now lets get into my story,
A couple by the names of Shannon and Omar, have been together for just about a year and this valentine's day will be their first but the challenge is one believes in the whole nine yards of valentines day while the other believes that it is a holiday invented by the corporate world to get people spending. They both believe that the other has the opposite expectation of what should be done for Valentines Day. So finally on valentines day they see each other one gives the other a present (I won't tell you what), while the other says that my gift isn't ready just yet.
They part and agree to meet later on in the day, in the park of most places. When they meet up again one is wearing red and white(the colors of Valentines day) while the other wears blue. The one who is yet to give a present says, I didn't get actually get you a present because I think Valentines day is a waste but I love you.
And thus they, sit down; the one who got a gift opened the present they had gotten earlier and in the box attached to a rock was a note which read,
"Babe I love You and Know you hate Valentines day but I still got you something I know you're not going to get me anything and I'm okay with it but please don't lie to me.
Love .............."
With all this said the two sat there on the bench silent, one of them was the wiser while the other truly didn't weigh the cost and benefits of the day. Wouldn't it make sense if you Love someone you would do whatever it takes to make them happy it doesn't take much money but it does take you being smart enough to put aside your own perceptions and Compromise!
Can You guess who hates valentines day and who loves it? the natural answer would be Omar hates valentines day (the Guy) and Shannon (the Girl) loves it. What if I told you that you were wrong and Omar was the girl who hates Valentines Day and Shannon is the Guy who Loves it?
Also Shannon was in Red and White and Omar was in Blue.
