Equality vs Justice: The fight for Women
Once again the world celebrates International Women's Day, and our focus moves towards women once more. But the age old dilemma still exist where women are fighting for equality, my view is that they're fighting for the wrong things.
Instead of fighting for equality the move should be towards equity, which can be summarised as fighting for the removal of the male bias. The gender roles continue to be distinct. The genders were designed that man is not equal to woman nor woman man. But the unfair treatment and silencing of women cannot remain as the status quo.
Women should be treated fairly in the workplace, which implies impartial pay for work done meaning both genders are paid according to the work that is done which is different from equal pay.
Equitable opportunities means that access to conventions such as education and healthcare Is necessary to achieve the global recognition deserved by women. However global trends suggest that this fight will not be for much longer, more and more women in the western world are accessing education and those a generating a much larger pool of skilled female labour which when saturates industy will aid in achieving the equity goals for women.
As it relates to gender specific violence and human trafficking we must address the root cause which is the demand for these girls in the sex trafficking world as well as the importance of speaking up and speaking out. Sex trafficking a lucrative business because there is demand, the solution however not simple is the find the demanders, the men and women who purchase sex from traffic victims.
Domestic violence represents a major issues that has damaging results on our societies, the fight against such is still an uphill battle.
Women represent significant drivers of economic activity and such deserve t o be equitably treated, given a fair chance to excel versus envying what man has and has be given due to a societal bias.
